Love is just too long - it’s too long for Pike County
Everyone I’ve known has moved on without me
Well they tear that mountain down
Turn that river around
So I guess I’m moving on, before it drowns me
Veins that once ran like gold, but it’s mud I leave behind me
Lungs that won’t grow old - the black dust will remind me
That there’s bad blood in this town
And no more good in the ground
And there’s no one young left around to bind me
Ah well, you make a deal amid the rock and the steel
And it can keep you around for a spell
Our union was strong, but the work - it’s all gone, and
I’m lonely - ha - we’re all lonely
But I’m lonely as hell
Because love is just too long - it’s too long for Pike County
Every dream has gone, like the songs that used to ground me
Well they tear that mountain down
Turn that river around
So I guess I’ll keep moving on ’til it’s found me

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
